Precisely four years ago, I resolved to attempt the creation of a new hybrid within the subtribe Catasetinae, intending to observe the entire process from pollination to flowering. As the selection of suitable parents was limited, I performed a reciprocal cross between Clowesetum Black Jade and (Catasetum Shanelle Girl × saccatum).
Capsules developed on both parent plants and, after a period of five months, were dispatched to the laboratory. According to the laboratory report, the seed yield was low; consequently, after a further ten months, only two flasks were received, which contained, in total, a modest 160 seedlings.
Now, approximately two and a half years after deflasking, merely 23 of these plants remain. Although still diminutive in comparison to the parent plants, the first amongst them has now flowered.
I have decided against formally registering this hybrid, opting instead to assign it solely a trade name.
