Pelatantheria bicuspidata x Trichoglottis atropurpurea
Sometimes it’s worth waiting a long time.
In July 2018, I pollinated my rather colorless Pthia. bicuspidata with the
color-intensive Trgl. atropurpurea. The goal was a habitus like Pelatantheria,
but with intensely colored and larger flowers.
The capsule went to the lab after 6 months and a year later bottles were
delivered with a total of over 400 seedlings.
Then the long wait began. The young plants grew quite well and got longer
and longer, but I had been warned by a friend that it would take four years
or more until the first flowering. At some point you hardly look at the green
„vegetable“ anymore, so after four and a half years, in June 2024, I was
surprised with a fully opened flower.
The result is a complete success for me, better than expected.
